Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my USPS tracking not updating?

USPS tracking may not update for several reasons: the package hasn't been scanned yet, it's in transit between facilities with no intermediate scans, there's a system delay, or the package is in a rural area with fewer scan points. Most packages will show updates within 24-48 hours of each movement.

What does "In Transit, Arriving Late" mean?

This status means your package is still moving through the postal network but won't arrive by the original estimated delivery date. Common causes include weather delays, high package volume, transportation issues, or the package being temporarily misrouted. Most delayed packages arrive within 2-3 additional business days.

How long should I wait before filing a missing mail claim?

USPS recommends waiting at least 7 days after the expected delivery date for domestic mail before filing a missing mail search request. For Priority Mail Express, you can file after 3 days. You can submit a search request at usps.com/help/missing-mail.htm.

What does "Available for Pickup" mean?

This means your package is being held at a post office and must be picked up in person. This happens when delivery was attempted but no one was available, a signature was required, or the sender requested Hold for Pickup. Check your mail for a pink slip (PS Form 3849) with the pickup location. Packages are held for 15 days.

Why does my tracking say "Delivered" but I didn't receive it?

First, check all possible delivery locations: front porch, back door, mailbox, with a neighbor, or at your building's package room. Sometimes the "Delivered" scan happens before the carrier physically drops off the package. If you still can't find it after a few hours, contact your local post office with your tracking number.
