Insurance & Liability Coverage

Registered Mail Insurance Limits

Registered Mail provides the highest insurance coverage available through USPS:

  • Base Coverage: $50 included with all Registered Mail
  • Additional Coverage: Available up to $50,000 for declared value items
  • Coverage Type: Full replacement value for lost or damaged items
  • Documentation: Complete chain-of-custody records for claims

Insurance fees are calculated based on declared value. Higher value items may require additional documentation.

Delivery Times & Restrictions

Delivery Timeline

Registered Mail typically takes 3-7 business days for delivery. The slower delivery time is due to:

  • Enhanced security handling procedures
  • Chain-of-custody documentation at each point
  • Locked storage requirements during transit
  • Manual processing instead of automated sorting

Service Restrictions

  • Not available for international letters
  • Cannot be combined with Express services
  • Available to all US addresses including PO Boxes
  • Serves military APO/FPO/DPO addresses

For faster delivery with tracking, consider Priority Mail (typically 2–3 business days after mailing).
